Applications will be accepted beginning Nov. 16 for the 2019 Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs June 23-July 13 at Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights. The free program is open to students in grades 9-11, and participants can earn high school class credit and scholarships to Kentucky colleges and universities.
The Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs (GSE), which was established in 2013, brings teens from across the state into a three-week residential program and immerses them in an authentic entrepreneurial experience. Students learn more about the opportunities, benefits and pitfalls of taking a business concept from the idea phase to pitching it to potential investors.
The program brings educators, professionals, innovators, businesses and business leaders together to transition young people out of the classroom and into a real-world mindset. Entrepreneurs leave the program with not only the real world tools to start a business, but also a network of contacts from around the state that includes other students and business leaders.
GSE’s partnership with NKU, where the program is moving next year, will target the secondary and post-secondary level to cultivate talented entrepreneurs. Year-round initiatives will be developed to focus on sparking the entrepreneurial passion of Kentucky’s youth.
The application deadline is Jan. 20. Visit the GSE website for more information.
