**NOTICE OF VACANT BOYD COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION SEAT**
Opportunity – The Kentucky Commissioner of Education is seeking applications to be considered for appointment to the Boyd County Board of Education. You are invited to nominate yourself or someone you know who is qualified to serve on the Boyd County Board of Education representing Educational Division #4. This vacancy was created by the resignation of board member, Randy Stapleton.
Under the provisions of KRS 160.190(2), this appointment is effective until the November 2020 regular election. This is a public service position and the person appointed will not be employed by the Boyd County Public Schools.
Requirements for a board member applicant: Be at least 24 years old, a Kentucky citizen for the last three years, a registered voter in the district and voter precinct of the vacancy (Division #4), have a high school diploma/GED certificate, must be in compliance with anti-nepotism state laws, and cannot provide contract services for the school district. The district boundaries run from U.S. Route 60 W at Princess to Addington Run, and U. S. Route 60 to Route 716 towards Daniels Fork off Route 5. **If you have any questions concerning the district boundaries for Division #4, please call 606-928-4141 to speak with the Superintendent or Carole Chaney.
Board member responsibilities: school board members are involved primarily in the following areas; developing policy that governs the operations of schools, providing visionary leadership that establishes long-range plans and programs for the district, hiring the district Superintendent and issuing annual evaluation reports, and setting local tax rates and practicing vigorous stewardship to ensure all school district funds are spent wisely.
Applications must be completed and mailed by January 15, 2019. Interviews will be scheduled approximately 10-20 working days after this mail date. All qualified applications received by the date stated above will be considered.
