Principal's Message

Kimberly Fitch
Principal, Boyd County Middle School

Hello BCMS Parents, Staff, and Community Members.

I am both humbled and excited to be on your team and serve as your new principal and instructional leader.  I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.  I have spent the last sixteen years dedicated to the education of students.  During that time, I spent ten years as a teacher in the elementary grades, teaching K; 2nd; 3rd; and 4th grades.  I did spend a few months teaching 5th grade as we experimented with looping and discovered it wasn't best for our kids.  Following those years, I served as the literacy interventionist at Lawrence County High School for almost four years working with the state turnaround team.  Most recently, I served as an assistant principal at Louisa Middle School.

On a more personal note, I have been married to Brian Fitch for 22 years.  We have two children.  Laken is our oldest and is a sophomore at Morehead State University.  Landon is an 8th grade student and is excited to be a Wildcat.  I enjoy learning new things, reading, writing, shopping, and relaxing on my porch sipping coffee.

It is my desire to serve our students, parents, and community partners each day.  I plan to work together with all stakeholders to ensure that ALL students receive the quality education they deserve.  I am very passionate about what I do and take this awesome responsibility very seriously.  In every decision I make, I think about how this will impact students and their achievement.  One of my favorite quotes is from a gentleman named Josh Shipp.  He said, “Every child is ONE caring adult away from a success story.”  I ask myself, “What if I am that ONE?”  The one and only adult that could make or break a student’s future could be me.

We have many challenges to face this year.  I want you to know our staff is ready, willing, and able to face these challenges and lead our students to victory.  I am confident this team of educators will do whatever it takes to witness each child reach his or her potential.  Already I have witnessed wonderful interactions within the walls of BCMS and at the Heritage Center.  I have witnessed teachers escorting lost students to class, volunteering to assist with supervision of bus duty, discussing how students’ schedules could be rearranged to ensure students have the opportunity to pursue their passions, students engaged in interactive lessons, and so much more.

There are some ways you can work with us to help your child succeed.  First, if you should need Mrs. Osborne or me for anything, please let us know.  Let’s keep the line of communication open.  We ask that if you do have a concern or issue, please allow us the opportunity to address the issue.  Venting about a situation on social media only creates more issues and won’t solve the problem.  When we listen and work together, we model proper communication and problem solving skills for our children.

If you should find that you are in need of a parent conference or you wish to speak with us, please call the school to schedule an appointment.

Next, we encourage you to be involved in your child’s education.  If you are not a member of our Parent Teacher Friend Organization, I highly recommend it.  As a former national PTA delegate, I feel strongly that parental involvement is a major contributor to a student’s success.

Finally, I can honestly say, it is a GREAT day to be a WILDCAT!

Best regards,

Mrs. Kimberly R. Fitch
BCMS Principal
