Student Opportunities

Camp Smile-Camp Smile is offered to students between the ages of 7-17 years old who have suffered the loss of a loved one.  This camp will be hosted from October 20-22 at Camp Lyons in Bath County and is available at no cost and is offered as a free community service by St Claire Regional Hospice and MSU Department of Nursing.  Campers will spend the weekend with bereavement counselors and will be offered a variety of participatory activities to them through feeling of grief and loss.  Campers will also have access to archery, hiking, crafts and a free T-shirt.  Space is limited, so students who wish to participate should go to www.st-claire.org/campSMILE to register today.

2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards-The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards were created in 1995 to recognize students in middle level and high school grades who have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service.  These awards are presented annually on the local, state and national level.  It is open to all volunteers in grades 5 - 12, so interested students can go to www.spirit.prudential.com to complete an application online.  The deadline is November 7, 2017 so start the process today!

HOBY-The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminars were founded in 1958 as a means to inspire and develop current sophomores to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation.  This year's HOBY will be held in June 2018 at Transyvania University in Lexington, KY.  The application process is a 500-word essay to a writing prompt.  The essays should be returned to the counseling office no later than November 27, 2017.  A first and second place essay will be chosen by a committee and the winning authors will be registered for HOBY.  All applicants will be notified by December 8, 2017. 

Sullivan University System Summer Career Camps-Sullivan University System camps will take place June 10th – 15th, 2018!  Explore career opportunities during the day in medical, technology, design, culinary, and baking & pastry. Students get to enjoy the evening activities at local attractions. Early bird discounts available if registered by February 28th.
